Turinabol
Strictly speaking, the official name of this anabolic steroid is 4-chlorodehydromethyltestosterone. But since a) this name is too long and b) the unofficial name has become more common, I will refer to it as Turinabol, also known as Oral Turinabol or simply "Turik."
Turinabol is an oral steroid that was developed in the early 1960s by the East German company "Jenapharm." It was the number one doping agent in the GDR and occupied the same place in the preparation of East German athletes as methandrostenolone did in the preparation of Soviet athletes.
History
The drug was first used in medical practice in 1965, and a year later it was already being used in sports. Initially, it was only used by men, but from 1968 the new drug began to be used in the preparation of women as well.
By 1972, not only the entire athletics of the GDR but also other speed, strength, and speed-strength sports "relied" on Oral Turinabol.
Turinabol can be considered the most studied steroid anabolic drug – almost 10,000 East German athletes were studied.
Unfortunately, the drug was discontinued in 1994 but subsequently, like the legendary Phoenix, it was revived. Turinabol is essentially something between methandrostenolone and clostebol.
Pharmacological Characteristics
Its molecule is essentially the methandrostenolone molecule with a chlorine atom introduced into the fourth position. Hence, one of the synonyms for Oral Turinabol is 4-chlormethandienone. This modification made the drug practically resistant to aromatization.
Like the vast majority of oral AAS, Turinabol is alkylated at the 17-alpha position, and therefore, is potentially harmful to the liver. However, no reports have indicated a clear negative impact on this vital organ, even with prolonged use.
Turinabol strongly resembles methandrostenolone not only in molecular structure – the effects of both drugs can also be considered similar.
However, unlike methandrostenolone, the use of Oral Turinabol leads to a less sharp increase in mass – because the drug practically does not retain water. At the same time, the increase in mass can be considered qualitative, with most of the gains remaining even after the "cycle" ends.
Release Form
Tablets or capsules for oral administration. The content of the active substance in a tablet (capsule) is 5 or 10 mg. Half-life period is 16 hours (new data).
It is recommended to divide the daily dose into 2 doses (unequal dosage: the first dose is 2/3 of the daily dose, the second dose is 1/3 of the daily dose).
Effects on the Body
- The most studied of anabolic steroids
- Promotes a significant increase in strength indicators
- Does not aromatize and does not have estrogenic activity
- Despite the almost complete absence of androgenic activity, it promotes a sharp increase in libido, for which it earned the nickname "sexdrug."
- Recently, fat-soluble metabolites of Oral Turinabol were found, which can be detected in doping tests for 100-120 days after the end of the drug intake.
Usage Features
Mass gain | Can be used | It is optimal to use in combination with drugs such as testosterone, nandrolone, boldenone. |
Increase in strength indicators | Used actively | Both on its own and in combination with trenbolone, testosterone, oxymetholone (with caution and for a short period due to increased liver load). |
Increase in endurance | Used actively | For these purposes, it is usually used "solo." |
Preparation for bodybuilding competitions | Used actively | Trenbolone, testosterone (short esters), stanozolol, boldenone. |
Recovery after the AAS "cycle" | Rarely used | Only according to the intermittent scheme. |
Recommended Dosages
Optimal dosage | 40-60 mg per day |
Minimum dosage 1 | 20 mg per day |
Maximum dosage 2 | 80 mg per day |
1 — the effect is very weak
2 — there is no point in increasing the dosage further
Side Effects
Suppresses endogenous testosterone secretion | yes |
Promotes significant increase in libido | yes |
Negative impact on the liver | moderate |
Negative impact on the kidneys | no |
Negative impact on the cardiovascular system | insignificant |
Increased aggressiveness | no |
Hair loss on the head, hair growth on the body | no |
Acne | no |
Gynecomastia | no |
Usage by Women
Despite the obvious androgenic "character" of Turinabol, female athletes in East Germany used it quite actively, with a daily dosage of 5-15 mg.
However, this usage was not due to the safety of the drug – virilization phenomena were quite common – but because there was no accessible alternative in the GDR. In other words, it was a forced measure.
Women who are not forced to take Oral Turinabol should avoid this drug – even a dosage of 5 mg per day is not sufficiently safe.

I started with a dosage of 30 mg, increasing it by 10 mg each week until reaching a daily dose of 50 mg. Then, I similarly began decreasing the dosage by 10 mg each week, planning to taper back down to 30 mg. I maintained a good diet and also used protein, omega, and other supplements.
During the month-long cycle on Turinabol alone, my weight increased to 88 kg, and my bench press went up to 100 kg. Initially, the cycle was planned for five weeks, but after a month, I injured my back due to an old injury flaring up. Therefore, I had to stop both the training and the cycle.
Overall, I liked the drug; my strength increased, and I gained muscle well in the third to fourth week of the cycle.
The first time I took it, I gained about 4 kg during the cycle. My strength levels improved significantly. My libido increased a lot, to the point where my girlfriend didn't know where to hide from me!
